Guy & Nina Anastasio

Guy & Nina lost one tree initially, it fell on Nina\'s car - not a complete loss and it has already been repaired. Subsequently the snow took out a few more trees. They only lost electricity for three days - Guy says they are ususally the last to get power back. They thank Centerpoint Energy crews from Houston for the service!

Chris Windeler in NJ

Chester, NJ, house has no power, water (I am On Well), heat. Do not expect power for a least a week 11/14/12. Have 5 large trees down and 3 telephone poles sheared off. Have moved to son\'s house with power and internet.
Shore house at Chadwick Beach Island can not be inspected because it is not accessible due to ocean broaching to the bay. It appears to be on its foundation but probably flooded from ariel photos.

Got message from Fred on Facebook yesterday that he and his family are ok. Per Fred: \"No power, maybe Saturday, boat survived great. Houses didn\'t.bay house is still standing, part of front exterior wall gone. Inland house 4 feet of water on ground level, living on second floor. Me and my wife, our black lab and cat are fine.\"

Bob Holub

from Don Clark:
NMC Committee Members:

I talked to Bob Holub today and Wednesday. He lives in Massapequa, NY and was greatly affected by the hurricane. He had flooding in the basement and virtually from the first floor down is ruined. Bob had his office in his basement. He said the local town officials are doing all they can and that one of his customers, a restaurant owner, is providing he and Nancy with hot meals. Phone service is difficult. I asked if there was any help I could give he said they were OK for the moment.

I will do all of the agenda schedules from now on and take all of the changes at my e-mail clarkcubed@aol.com address or phone 352 861 2176.

If in the future there is a way to reach out to Bob and others affected, lets pitch in an help in any way we can.

Regards,

Don

Glen & Diane Sherman, Peconic Bay D/3

Many of you know we are liveaboards. A good boat, two full days of preparation and a dress rehearsal last year during Irene have all paid off. We had little damage at our marina, none on the boat and watched the entire storm from the safety of a house on the marina property. We had a packed bag and escape route ready just in case but luckily didn\'t have to use it. We are safely back onboard with power and normal water levels. Thoughts and prayers are with our friends who were not so lucky. God is good and we are grateful.

Sandy\'s effect on D/3

The D/3 Fall Conference scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled.
Many members of south shore squadrons are contending with major flooding and wind and water damage from Sandy.
Those living north of Sunrise Hwy have experienced wind damage, trees and power lines down and are without electric or cell phone service and can\'t be reached. Major roads are now open.

D4 Update

from Vincene Aquilato (City Island, D4):

Hurricane Sandy has wrecked havoc on the D/4 region and its members. Most of them are without power, and have suffered losses to their homes, boats, cars. Cell service is almost non-existent, and home phones are down as well. Thankfully, I have not heard of any personal injury.

The hotel at which our meeting was to have been held is also without power and they don\'t expect it to come back on line anytime soon. Gas supply is limited as well, as the stations have no power with which to pump the gas.

All in all the situation is not a good one.

Update on boats damaged during Hurricane Sandy at CYC, Cornwall-on-Hudson

The Cornwall Yacht Club (many 02-20 members) was heavily hit with storm surge damage and several of the members who had boats up on dry dock had those boats either lifted off or blown off their stands, sustaining varying degrees of damage. My boat had the top canvas completely torn off (gone and nowhere to be seen), cracks to smokey plastic front \"windshield\" and damage to fiberglass body. I am awaiting a BoatUS insurance adjuster to reply (do have a claim number) but suspect they are significantly backed up. My boat \"Second Chance\" was put back into water until adjuter can come, but is being checked and appears to have no water leaking into hull, but I am awaiting a more thorough inspection/check.

Jean Hamilton and Dave Hinders - Sandy

Jean and Dave

Thanks for putting out the message this morning, I came to add my posts and found them already done. Having personally gone through the devastation of Frances and Jeanne (fortunately with a different spelling than yours!!) and the devastion it brought back in 2004, I know communication with the \"outside world\" is very important. I also discovered that members want to know how you are doing and want to listen. The only problem with that is that the unfortute homeowner is draining their cell phone battery with possibly no means to charge again. So one person calling and then posting here saves the homeowners battery power, and time that can be better spent drying out, saving \"precious\" items and calling their insurance company.

So members please look out for your Power Squadron family and then immediately post here so others do not have to call, if you want to touch base with friends, do it here - they will see your message when they hve power and time to follow up.
